New Faces

Our English Club seems to be growing of late. For the past several weeks, we’ve seen a marked increase in attendance, and at times have even had to worry a bit about seating!

Our English Club has been meeting for over three years now, and in that time we’ve built some key relationships with Ukrainians who come regularly. Below are some photos from yesterday’s meeting. Thanks for praying for this ministry!

Lately we've had several new faces at English Club.

Jessie explains some English words at the white board.

Ivan (left) is one of our most faithful attendees and also a believer.

Ivan has lately been bringing his two nieces, Nastia (far left) and Olenka (second from left).

We've also begun bringing Abby and Beka. They love coming to English Club with Dad, coloring on the white board, playing with the other kids (after the meeting) and of course eating cookies during the fellowship time.

Vasyl started attending our group a few months ago and has been very faithful as well. He brings his niece and nephew with him.

Octap (right) and Sophia (second from right) are Vasyl's nephew and niece. They're very sharp kids and they know English well.

Please keep praying for our English Club. Of course, our primary goal is not English, but to communicate Christ to these precious souls. We do this often by reading together from Good and Evil (by No Greater Joy), but also in conversation and through Bible teaching. While some members of our group are saved, many others are not. Regardless, we have good rapport with the whole group and it is our desire to see each of them turn to Jesus for salvation.

Tuesday Night Report

God is continuing to bless our English Club and Audio Bible Study meetings! Each week people are coming to hear the Word of God. By way of reminder, we hold English Club for the first hour of the evening, follow that with a 5 minute break, and then begin Bible teaching/preaching in Ukrainian for the second hour. The evening ends with tea, snacks, and fellowship.

We have recently been reminded of the power of media in spreading the Word of the Gospel of Christ, and we are encouraged that we now have the book of John, part of the book of Romans, and various topical messages on CD as a result of these weekly meetings.

This week Joshua finished Romans chapter 5 with our group.

ABS from Nikki’s Point of View

“Nikki” is what we have affectionately dubbed our Nikon D40 camera. Every Tuesday, she goes with us to English Club and Bible study to help document the evening’s events. The following are a few of her shots from recent weeks.

God is continuing to bless this ministry–we are building good friendships and people are hearing the gospel preached. Please continue to pray that those who are coming would repent and believe in Christ!

Report from Tuesday Night

Each Tuesday evening, we continue to meet together with Ukrainians for English Club and Audio Bible Study. (ABS)  “Audio” refers to the fact that each time Joshua, Jessie, or another missionary preaches from the Word of God, the messages are being recorded in digital format so that multiple Ukrainians can have access to them over time. Although the first half of the evening is a focus on English, the preaching time is always done in Ukrainian so that the nationals can hear the Word of God clearly  in their own language. This ministry continues to grow and we are encouraged by how God has blessed it! New people often visit our group, and others have become regular attendees. Thank you to everyone who is consistently lifting this ministry up in prayer. Please pray with us that it would bear fruit unto salvation, and that people would be “turned from the error of their way” unto Christ, who is THE way.

“Pray everyday, all the time, everywhere.”

In Ukraine, it is not uncommon to find people who think that prayer must be read from a book or recited from an already assembled collection. Many people often pray the Lord’s prayer in a repetitious fashion, but have little idea of telling their hearts to God. The simplicity of coming to God as a Father and asking for what you need, or offering thanksgiving and worship, is sometimes foreign to them.

Jessie did a wonderful job of explaining to our Tuesday night group what the Bible says about prayer. He touched on what, where, when, why, and how to pray. We all came away encouraged to “pray everyday, all the time, everywhere.”

How to Study the Bible

We had our core group of men show up last night for English Club and Audio Bible Study (ABS)! As time has passed, we feel we have really gotten to know this group and that our friendships are steadily growing.

Several men joined us last night for English Club and ABS.

Each week, the Word of God is preached and they are staying to listen. As we teach the Bible, we feel it is paramount that they understand we are not just another religious group putting forth our own ideas about the Bible, trying to dogmatically convince them of our personal views. Rather, we make every effort to show them that anything we teach comes directly from the Word of God, a source they can easily access for themselves. With some simple studying they can know for themselves exactly what the Bible says and whether we are indeed speaking truth.

Last night, Joshua did a great job of laying out simple steps to studying the Bible and drawing accurate conclusions about what it teaches. We hope that this message will benefit not only those who were present, but many others who will hear the recording of it in the days to come.
