Good and Evil, family news, our new ETO staff family, CMO 2018 — where do I start? Two pages never seems enough to fit in all the news. But this time, I’m going to try…

Grab Bag Report

Joshua Steele · November 8, 2017

There are months when so much is going on, it's hard to find time to write newsletters! God is blessing the ministry and keeping us busy with progress on a variety of fronts. In this issue, we'd like to give you a little grab bag of several mini-reports. Let's dive in!

Lviv has recently gained some nice outdoor attractions, including a rope course. Check out this collection of photos from our weekend excursion!

Lviv Rope Course

Last Sunday, I took all the kids from our Bible First class to a rope course here in Lviv. We had a fun time and thought you might enjoy seeing some pictures.

Bible First Kids

On April 8, 2017, our eldest daughter Abigail was baptized following her profession of faith in Christ. After the event, as we stood outside and chatted with various friends who had attended, Pastor Mihailo approached me with a request. "I heard that you’ve been taking Abigail through the Bible First lessons at home." I acknowledged that this was correct. "Would you be willing to do the same for our older kids at church?"

Every morning on weekdays, Abigail and I read through a portion of Bible First.
We are now on Lesson 10!

One of the most common questions I am asked as a missionary is how I would describe a “typical day on the foreign mission field”. This question always amuses me because the mission field is intrinsically atypical! During my time overseas, I’ve learned that God leads our ministry through seasons. Just when we think we’ve settled into something stable, the game changes.

Platform Rising

When I first came to Ukraine over 15 years ago, my initial goal was to learn how to speak the Ukrainian language. I knew that if I was to effectively communicate the Gospel to people here, I needed to be able to talk.

Kelsie and I recently had the privilege of teaching our very first parenting seminar! Organized by a local church here in Lviv, the event was well attended, and we were excited for the opportunity to address Ukrainian couples on the topic of child training.

Over the past few months, I’ve often found myself pondering that well-known phrase in Psalm 23... “...my cup runneth over.” It seems God has lately thrown open the flood gates of ministry opportunity for our family. While at times exhausting and even overwhelming, it’s a great problem to have!

Oleg Demedyuk is a believer from Lviv. At his request, we recently started a Friday-night Bible study. Currently, we are studying the book of Romans.

Meet Oleg

Recently, I received an email from a young man named Serhii whom I discipled several years ago. A friend from Serhii’s church had inquired about finding someone who could disciple him. Serhii suggested that he contact me, and he did.

At a recent film showing in the village of Ilemnya (pronounced ee-LEM-nya) we had over 40 kids in attendance. Each of them received copies of Good and Evil Short plus starter packets for our Bible course.

Overcome Evil with Good

Carpathian villages, though beautiful in photos, can be surprisingly dark places. Entrenched in centuries of religion and superstition, the people who live in these mountain communities often embody a sad yet all too common paradox: “They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him...” (Titus 1:16)
