For the past few weeks at ABS, we’ve been teaching through the first two chapters of Romans. Since his opening statement in Romans 1:18, Paul has built an air-tight case against the ungodly. Furthermore, having drawn us into a position of judgment, he has shown that we who consider ourselves to be “better than the wicked” are in fact just as guilty, condemned by our own mouths.

Proving that ALL are under sin

In the first three chapters of the book of Romans, Paul provides us with irrefutable evidence that all men are indeed under sin. A firm grasp of this concept is foundational in understanding the Gospel. Contrary to what is commonly taught, Paul does not point to a birth defect as the basis for the sinner’s blame. Rather, he points out that God judges men who hold truth in unrighteousness. (Rom. 1:18)

Last time at ABS (Audio Bible Study), I taught from John chapter 20 on the resurrection. During the course of the lesson, one of the verses I cited was I Timothy 2:5: “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;” After the lesson had ended, one of our students, Marian, came up to ask me about this point.
